The Story of Twisted Crown

Why this Story? Why Now?

Domestic Violence happens all over the world, stories pour in from everywhere, this film is a personal one, one that may inform others that they are not alone. Before Covid-19 hit the world these are the statistics of domestic abuse in the United States alone:

1 in 15 children are exposed to intimate partner violence each year, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence.

1 in 7 women & 1 in 18 men are stalked by an intimate partner during their lifetime to the point that they feel they or someone they love will be harmed or killed.

Only 34% of those who are physically abused by an intimate partner seek needed medical assistance.

Close to 20 people per minute are abused by an intimate partner, this equates to approximately 10 million men and women in the United States.

45% of women are raped by an intimate partner.

It is more important than ever to tell this story because the number of domestic violence cases has risen exponentially since the onset of COVID-19 shutdowns as the “SAFE Alliance reports escalating domestic violence is ‘another public health pandemic’”*

These victims and survivors need social awareness to change the narrative in order to protect, and bring light to a darkness that has gone on far too long.

This film will give a voice to those who feel as if they will never be heard. It will take a look into the complexities of the situation the survivors endure, and tell a story on their terms. The goal is to open up more discussions about this issue, encouraging legislation changes and destigmatizing the different forms of domestic violence.
